Dealing with Damage

Applying for Federal Hurricane Relief

Homeowners may be eligible for federal disaster assistance if their manufactured home sustains damage during a hurricane. 

It’s important to safely assess and document the damage left by hurricane-force winds, storm surges, or debris. 

You can see if you qualify for FEMA disaster assistance, apply, and check application deadlines online following the storm.

For the most up-to-date information, please monitor your local news media or check the emergency management website listed for your community.

Need help evacuating? There is a shuttle system to help. FEMA recommends calling the 1-800-729-3413 for evacuation assistance if you are in a county with an evacuation notice in place.

Please do not return to a community until you get the go-ahead from our management team. Cove Communities follows county and state safety protocols to provide a safe reopening for areas that have been evacuated during a storm.

Boil Water Notice

The boil water notice remains in effect. We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide the next update in 3 days. Please continue to boil all water before use. Thank you for your patience.

  • Please conserve water while the water plant returns to normal operation and fills up our holding tanks.
  • Make sure your contractors are approved vendors in the community.

Debris

  • We are currently in the process of removing any limbs and trees that pose a threat to residents’ homes.
  • A dumpster will arrive on Thursday October 17 and stay onsite unit October 25 for clean up. The dumpsters primary purpose is going to be used for any drywall and aluminum. The following items CANNOT be placed in this dumpster:
    • No food or wet waste
    • No clothing or oily rags
    • No batteries or auto parts
    • No drums or, liquids or chemicals
    • No batteries or auto parts
    • No appliances or electronics
    • No hazardous waste
    • No dirt /Soil
  • Please bring yard debris and aluminum to the front yard by the street.
  • Do not put anything in the street.
  • Aluminum collection will be collected beginning Wednesday. This is a one-time pickup.
  • If your insurance carrier is requesting to visually see your aluminum, I would ask that you not place it to the road or ask if pictures can be used. Please speak to your carrier on their requirements.
  • Tree services will be in the community will be addressing the live oaks, sweet gum trees, Australian pines and Queen and Sable palms.  If you have a tree issue with trees on your lot please send an email or sign up at the information center in the Clubhouse Lobby and when they have completed their initial work they will come around and give you a fair and discounted quote for your service.

What’s Open:

  • The pool opened Monday. Monday. The pool is currently at 79 degrees as the geothermal heaters need to be reset and that is scheduled for Tuesday.
  • The spa is working with no issues and is currently 102 degrees.

Boil Water Notice

  • FEMA and Sarasota County will not be collecting aluminum or large tree debris so we have a contractor that will be collecting it from the street.

  • Auditorium pool will open on Wednesday after the pool service finishes final adjustments – there will be limited furniture and no umbrellas.

  • Clubhouse will open on Wednesday morning.

We hope that you and your families are safe. There is significant damage and debris in the community from Hurricane Milton and we ask that residents stay in your home if you did not evacuate, or remain in your shelter or other safe place until further notice.

Our teams will be assessing the damage as soon as it is safe to do so. We have our vendors on standby and ready to begin the removal of the many fallen trees and debris, and to re-establish services. We will reach out as soon as we know more about the level of damage and when it is safe for you to return to the community.

  • No powers and cell towers are down. No internet.
  • Portable restrooms are being brought into the community.
  • Downed trees have made the roads impassable.
  • Hurricane Milton also damaged water and sewer lines.

We will reach out as soon as we know more about the level of damage and when it is safe for you to return to the community.

Hurricane Clubhouse Policy

Cove clubhouses are not certified for hurricane safety. It is crucial that you have an evacuation plan in place, as other Cove buildings and clubhouses will not be available for shelter during a hurricane.
