Meadowlea Village is located in DeLand, a town dubbed the Athens of Florida, because of the foresight of its founder, Mr. Deland who had the vision for it to become a place of education, beauty, and culture just like Athens, Greece. It’s a desirable place to tour the rich history and architecture as it offers all the charm of small-town life in the Deep South. Come to visit, but be careful because you might want to stay forever.
A highlight of every week is going to the local farmers’ market on Friday evenings. In addition to fabulous Florida produce and honey, it has arts, crafts, and irresistible baked goods. It is located in Artisan Alley and opens at 6 p.m. so we recommend arriving early to browse through boutiques and nosh at one of the many restaurants. Classic car enthusiasts look forward to the Downtown Deland Classic Car Cruise-In on the third Saturday of the month. Hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the location is East Indiana Avenue. An annual event that is popular with the locals is the Deland Fall Festival of the Arts, scheduled for November 23 and 24. Aside from 175 artists, who display work in all types of mediums, the gala will include live music and street performers. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the location is 100 North Woodland Boulevard.
Deland is part of what is known as “Old Florida,” a slower-paced part of the state with a certain magical atmosphere. While it almost defies description, when people leave, they feel that they’ve left behind a part of themselves. Residents of the village enjoy all kinds of activities onsite, and they’ll also be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas together.
