Reason for the Season
Tarpon Springs hosts events throughout the year, but the best time to join in the festivities is during the holiday season. Enjoy a host of galas, all of which welcome you free of charge. They start on December 6 with the annual Illuminated Boat Parade, a procession of festively decorated vessels that light up the waterfront as they glide by. Next on the agenda, the Christmas Parade on December 14 runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Christmas on the Sponge Docks runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The latter is a downtown celebration of listening to music, sampling delicacies from food vendors and shopping for unique gifts. Local festivities will culminate on the evening of December 24 with a cherished tradition called Light Up the Bayou. Here, thousands of candles in white paper bags are lit at sunset and placed around the water.
