Free Watermelon

Swing by for a free watermelon slices while supplies last as Cypress Lakes celebrates National Watermelon Day. The watermelon giveaway is sponsored by Boley Insurance, a local GEICO office.

BINGO

All residents are welcome to play and their house guests – 18 years and older. Community volunteers host 10 games of regular bingo, 6 bonus games, and 3 jackpot games.

Bring canned food or non-perishable foods to donate on August 11 and receive a bingo card for a special game. You will only receive 1 card for the food you bring. All food items will be donated to a local Central Florida food bank.

Trivia Night

Put your knowledge to the test and earn the trivia crown (literally)!

Dang Yo Trivia is back every second and fourth Thursday of the month. Get your team together to compete, eat, drink, and win. Happy Hour runs from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

PRO TIP: Watch the DangYo Facebook page for answer clues leading up to each trivia night. The top three teams will take home gift certificates to the Big Cypress Grill.

Bonsai Club

• Noon – 3:00 pm in the Main Hall

Try something new with the Bonsai Club. Starter trees and classes are available for beginners. Bring your trees, tools, and curiosity.

Bonsai Club also meets the other Thursday mornings for Driveway Bonsai from 9:00 am to noon. Open to all who have an interest in the craft of growing trees in pots.

Labor Day 6-6-6 Golf Scramble

• 8:30 am @ Big Cypress Golf Club
• $20 for Big Cypress members
• $50 for non-members

The 6-6-6 scramble is made up of four-person teams. Players then switch partners every six holes. The combined total tam score determines the winner. Special contests include closest to the pin and straightest drive.

Sign up now for a fun day on the golf course that includes prizes from the Big Cypress Pro Shop and lunch.

Par for the Corpse – Comedy Play

The Curtain Time Players has selected a cast and rehearsals are in full swing for our Fall Show, “Par for the Corpse.” The comedy play, by Craig Sodano, follows a group of singles on a golf retreat looking for love but finding murder instead.

Welcome Back Golf Scramble

Plans are coming together for the first big golf scamble as snowbirds return. Entry fees include golf, lunch, and a shot at playing for prize money. More details to come in September.

This is a social group for women that enjoy themed luncheons, outings, and bus trips. It’s a fun way to meet neighbors, make friends, and take part in a variety of activities. This group is not golf related.

The Cypress Lakes RV Club is a club for those who are avid RVers and like to travel and enjoy each other’s company.  The Club does several campouts every year.

Join this group of residents that are passionate about honoring Veterans and Veteran Related Organizations. 

They also run a program called the Good Samaritan Handyman Project: Members of the CLVA are available to assist residents of Cypress Lakes with small chores around the house at NO COST to the homeowner. This program is for those residents that are unable to do those tasks themselves.

A social group that meets on Monday morning to make shorts, T-shirts & baby layettes for the children of Polk County. They also make lap robes for nursing homes. It’s a great way to meet ladies with similar interests and contribute to wonderful charities.

Curtain Time Players is the theater group for Cypress Lakes. In addition to being on stage, there are plenty of off-stage activities you can get involved in. They perform three or four shows a year. All residents are invited to join the group and audition for the shows. No experience necessary.

If you enjoy singing four-part harmony, join us for our two annual performances. Practice runs January through March for the spring concert and October through November for the Tree Lighting Ceremony. No tryouts or music reading skills are required.

Green thumb or not, all residents are welcome to join. This is a relaxed and social gardening group where residents learn about plants, share gardening knowledge, and participate in gardening-related projects.

AMBUCS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mobility and independence for people with disabilities. This resident-led group supports that mission locally through fundraising and volunteer ramp-building projects that help neighbors stay active and safely remain in their homes.

Neighbor to Neighbor is a volunteer group of approximately 35 members that supports residents who may be living alone or in need of additional assistance. The group offers friendly check-ins, companionship, and helps connect residents with local resources such as transportation, housekeeping, and caregiver services.

Just a friendly reminder that Neighbor to Neighbor is available as a resource if you ever notice a neighbor who may need a little extra support.
