The Best Maine Elopement Locations

Brides can give their wedding an intimate, timeless feel with mother nature as their backdrop. That’s what happened when New Hampshire resident Sarah Bouffard and her fiance Alexander Barrett booked Point Sebago for her wedding venue.

“We’ve been spending a lot of time in Maine. I love Maine, and our initial plan was to do like Portland City Hall because they have a room you can rent.”

However, those plans fell through.

That’s when Bouffard discovered Point Sebago for her October elopement. The bride needed a location for a small wedding ceremony. Plus, she was looking for a venue big enough to house her out-of-state family in one location.

Maine Wedding Venues and Lodging in One

“Point Sebago was nice enough to let us do both. A lot of AirBnbs wouldn’t allow us to stay and do a ceremony on site even though it was only a few people.”

The couple booked The Island Lodge at Point Sebago Resort for their wedding venue. The 4,000-square-foot home was large enough to host their elopement and give all 12 of their guests a place to stay.

The three-story lodge features seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, a hot tub, and a sauna. Most importantly for Bouffard, the venue offers a private point surrounded by water on three sides – perfect for a fall elopement.

The location gives couples privacy from the rest of the campground to host their ceremony. Couples can bring in caterers and event staff if they register with the resort office beforehand.

Booking Point Sebago was a leap of faith for Bouffard who had never visited the resort before her nuptials.

“It was literally our first time there. It was the first time for our guests too.”

Group Cabin Discounts for Larger Weddings

Wedding parties aren’t limited to The Island Lodge.

The classic Maine camp features resort-style camping. Guests can choose from an assortment of RV sites, glamping tents, and cabins to fit any size wedding. Larger wedding parties qualify for a discount when they book ten or more cabins.

Contact the resort by phone for group bookings or to reserve event space like the Pine Room or Grove Tent for wedding reception venues.

A stay includes access to the entire resort including:

There’s even a top-rated golf course at Point Sebago for guests looking to relax before the wedding festivities.

Communication with the resort is key for couples looking to get married at the Sebago Lake campground in Maine. Point Sebago offers beach access and rental space, but not a wedding coordinator.

Bouffard coordinated with the front office team before booking at Point Sebago.

“I was talking to Katie in the main office beforehand. She went to the lodge and sent me pictures of the backyard so we could get a plan beforehand.”

The couple kept their elopement plans simple and local.

Bouffard went to Windham, Maine for their wedding day extras like their cake, hair, and makeup.

The bride worked with the team at Spruce Salon for her bridal look. Deb Hall at Cakes by Debbie baked the wedding cake and the couple hired Emily Leonard Photography from Portland, Maine to capture their special moment.

Bouffard’s family set up for the beautiful outdoor ceremony in the private lakefront yard.

“Everything just went as planned. No fiascos. We lucked out with the weather. It was perfect weather for us.”

Bouffard only has one piece of advice for anyone planning a Point Sebago wedding.

“Have a backup plan in case the weather changes,” explained Bouffard, who exchanged vows in early October.

She and Barrett now join a long list of couples who made Point Sebago part of their love story by exchanging vows or becoming engaged at the Maine camp.

“We have an excuse to come back here every year. We want to visit Point Sebago during the summer season too so we can take advantage of the lake, beach, and everything.”
