Meet Krista Happ. She’s a wife, mother of two, full-time RVer, and content creator. She’s the magic behind the popular social media handle Happy Healthy Casita, where Krista shares her RV travels to places like South Florida. The travel pro shows off the best ways to explore southern Florida and beyond with kids. She showcases full-time RV living, sharing authentic travel tips and family-friendly adventures.
Krista traveled to South Florida in March 2025. The family toured Florida in their RV from Sarasota to Fort Myers and then to the Florida Keys.
Now she’s sharing her favorite stops, activities, and two family-friendly RV resorts: Blueway RV Park in Fort Myers and Big Pine Key RV Park in the Florida Keys. Both RV parks offer resort-style amenities and a packed schedule of activities for the whole family.
1. Discover Blueway RV Park – Fort Myers, FL

“A little slice of paradise situated in the heart of SW Florida.”
-Krista Happ
That’s Krista’s take on Blueway RV Park, where her family documented their stay in the spring of 2025. You can find all the Blueway highlights on Instagram. Happy Healthy Casita showed what life is like at the family-friendly RV park from the amenities, activities, and nearby attractions.
“Blueway is truly the way to visit Fort Myers,” explains Happ in one reel, showing off everything from the swimming pools to the dog park.
Take Krista’s word for it.
“RV life isn’t always one big vacation, but today is definitely one of those days that makes it all worth it.”
The Happy Healthy Casita crew truly loved the vacation vibe with the resort amenities offered at Blueway RV Park. That’s what makes Blueway the perfect family getaway in Southwest Florida. The park features 375 full-hookup RV sites, activities for the whole family, and resort-style amenities:
- Heated pool and hot tub
- Pickleball, shuffleboard, gaga ball
- Mini putting green
- Shuffleboard
- Cornhole
- Pet-friendly park: includes dog park and washing station
- On-site food truck café
Krista loved the vacation vibe and the resort amenities offered at Blueway. Her husband and son played ’90s bingo at Blueway’s clubhouse, giving the duo a “dude’s date night.”
While staying at Blueway, Happy Healthy Casita explored incredible local attractions nearby. Now she’s sharing her favorites. Check these Happy Healthy Casita recommendations when you stay at Blueway RV Park.

Top-Rated Attractions When Visiting Fort Myers
2. Fort Myers Beach
Located along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Fort Myers Beach is famous for its pristine white sand, calm waters, and beautiful sunsets. The beach offers a variety of water activities like swimming, kayaking, and parasailing. You can also stroll along the nearby Fort Myers Pier, which made it the perfect spot for Krista and her family to enjoy a day by the sea.
3. Sanibel Island
Sanibel Island is perfect for shelling if you are looking for a more relaxed day. One afternoon, Krista and her family went shelling, and her son spent hours collecting a variety of unique shells.
“One thing I’ve really appreciated about being at Blueway RV Park is how close it is to places like Sanibel Island, all that Fort Myers offers.”
Sanibel Island is a great spot to rent a bike and explore the island’s extensive trail system or visit the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge for some birdwatching. The Wildlife Refuge features a four-mile Wildlife Drive, three walking trails, two canoe launches, and is home to over 245 bird species.
4. Captiva Island
Captiva Island is another must-see destination. The island offers boat tours, fishing, and paddleboarding. See below how Krista conquered her fear of paddleboarding by trying it for the first time.
5. Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve
The Preserve is a 3,500-acre wetland where visitors can explore cypress swamps and oak hammocks while observing Florida’s wildlife. The 1.2-mile boardwalk trail offers a scenic walk to view the area’s diverse wildlife. You can also learn about the local ecosystem through guided tours and exhibits at the visitor center.
6. Manatee Park in Fort Myers
This unique location is a perfect place where visitors can see manatees in their natural habitat. The best time to visit is from November to March, when manatees gather. You can also rent a kayak or canoe to explore the tranquil Orange River and enjoy the peaceful environment.
7. The Edison and Ford Winter Estates
The Estates provide a glimpse into the lives of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, showcasing their historic homes, gardens, the gift shop, and the museum. Stroll through the tropical gardens, including Edison’s iconic banyan tree. Explore the homes of both Edison and Ford, and visit the museum to learn about Edison’s inventions and Ford’s automotive legacy.
8. Koreshan State Park
Koreshan State Park in Estero, Florida, is a historic site once home to a utopian community. Now it offers a variety of outdoor activities and nature exploration. Tour the historic settlement to learn about the Koreshan Unity community. When you are ready to explore the outdoors, kayak or paddleboard along the Estero River, or fish in the river’s peaceful waters.
Traveling to Big Pine Key RV Park
Next on the road trip was a journey south from Fort Myers to the Florida Keys. The Happy Healthy Casita tour made one stop along the way worth mentioning – Pigeon Key. It’s one of Krista’s top recommendations for travelers with kids to explore.
9. Pit-Stop at Pigeon Key – Florida Keys
Pigeon Key is a small historic island accessible only on foot, by bike, or train. Happy Healthy Casita recommends parking the RV in a nearby lot and bicycling to the island. The family enjoyed scenic ocean views along the way.
Once on the island, take a guided tour to learn about the island’s role in building the Overseas Railroad. The whole Happy Healthy Casita crew participated in fish feeding (with sharks, tarpons, and more), explored the museum, and historic buildings.
There’s plenty to do for all ages. Beyond the tours, there’s swimming, snorkeling, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife watching.
Admission to Pigeon Key:
- Walkers/Bikers: $15/adult, $12/kids
- Train: $28/adult, $20/kids
10. Explore Big Pine Key RV Park – The Florida Keys

“Beautiful views are right outside your doorstep at Big Pine Key RV Park.”
The waterfront RV park amenities are just as unique as its location.
Natural beauty met family entertainment when Happy Healthy Casita arrived at Big Pine Key RV Park. The island RV resort offers views of Spanish Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean.
“If you are looking for a park with amenities and activities but more of a natural vibe within an easy drive to Key West, Marathon, this is such a great, family-friendly spot.”
The location makes Big Pine Key RV Park a prime spot for anglers and nature lovers.
Big Pine Key is located in the Lower Keys. It’s just past the Seven Mile Bridge at mile marker 33 on the Overseas Highway.
The park gives guests direct access to the Key Deer Refuge that Krista showed off on her social media channels. The travel pro even got up close to these gentle animals that naturally roam the RV park.
The RV park offers more than perfect views. Pop in to Big Pine Key RV Park welcome center if you are looking to explore by boat. The team has a list of local recommendations.
The Keys are renowned for excellent fishing, where you can expect to catch tarpon, snook, barracuda, and more. The campground workers also feed the sharks and tarpon every morning at Big Pine Key, as seen on Happy Healthy Casita.
“Every morning they toss the leftover fish parts in this area, and all the friends come to feast,” described Krista of the morning routine at Big Pine Key RV Park. “We saw nurse sharks, tarpon, and a black tip shark.”
Krista calls the daily event a “must-see” for families with kids.
Big Pine Key RV Park is one-of-a-kind for its themed weekends and amenities:
- Marina and dock access
- Swimming pool and bar
- Dock and kayak rentals
- Key Deer Refuge hiking trail
- Activities like themed weekends and fishing charters
- Prime location for fishing in both the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic Ocean
While staying at Big Pine Key, Happy Healthy Casita showcased the surrounding area and favorite local attractions.

Family-Friendly Florida Keys Favorites
11. John Pennekamp State Park – Key Largo
This state park is one of the best spots for snorkeling and diving and is known for its underwater coral reefs and marine life. It’s a great stop for families exploring Florida’s natural wonders.
12. Bahia Honda State Park – Sugarloaf Key
Bahia Honda State Park offers the best beaches in the Keys with opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and sunbathing, along with scenic views of the ocean and surrounding nature.
13. Dolphin Research Center – Grassy Key
The Dolphin Research Center offers interactive experiences, including opportunities to swim with dolphins. It’s a fun and educational stop for animal lovers and families. Krista enjoyed making this a “field trip” for her homeschooled kids.
14. Dry Tortugas National Park
For an adventurous excursion, consider a day trip to Dry Tortugas National Park. The park is accessible by boat or seaplane. This remote, historic location is known for its stunning beaches and impressive coral reefs.
15. Veterans Memorial Beach – Key West
Pack a picnic and take the kids to Veterans Memorial Beach to watch the kiteboarding. That’s the advice from Happy Healthy Casita.
The beach is a great spot for kite boarders because of the winds and large, rockless surf area.
“It’s so cool to watch. It’s great for spectators because there is both a beach area and tiki huts with picnic tables and shade,” according to Happy Health Casita’s review.
