How an RV Family Found a Home Base at Blueway RV Park

Patrice and Johnny Patrice at Blueway Rv Park in Fort Myers, Florida with their kids.

For years, Johnny and Patrice Winchester lived life on the road before landing in Fort Myers, Florida at Blueway RV Park. As a travel nurse, each new assignment took their family of five somewhere new in their RV. Meeting new people, exploring new RV parks, and finding adventure at every stop was their norm. But when they discovered Blueway in Fort Myers, FL, they found a stop that felt like home.

Blueway RV Park in Florida

“We’ve been to 16 states and a lot of RV parks. Blueway is literally one of our favorites.”

One of Florida’s Most Family-Friendly RV Resorts

When the Winchesters arrived at Blueway RV Park in December 2024, they were immediately drawn to its mix of resort-style amenities and small-community feel. Days often start at the pickleball courts, shuffleboard, or dog park, and end with neighbors gathered in the pavilion for one of the RV resort’s weekly activities.

“We haven’t been anywhere that has had quite as many events and things that we can participate in,” Patrice said. “Here, every day there’s something new.”

The Winchesters found the Fort Myers community to be just as inclusive and welcoming during snowbird season, when the 55+ crowd flocks south for the winter and packs the park.

“Even during snowbird season when there aren’t as many kids, everybody’s still very accepting and friendly,” said Patrice. “We kind of just fit right in.”

The Winchester kids—Lawson, Amelia, and Nora—have their own reasons for loving Blueway. Lawson enjoys the hot tub, heated pool, and the friendly people he meets there. For Amelia, it’s “all the kids to play with to make a lot of friends.”

A Fort Myers Community for Full-Time RV Families

Blueway RV Park is home to more than winter snowbirds. It’s also a haven for full-time RV families like the Winchesters. With the flexibility of remote jobs and online school options, families are finding that resort-style Florida RV resorts like Blueway offer everything they need for long-term stays.

Blueway’s full hookup RV sites, reliable Wi-Fi, and pet-friendly atmosphere make it easy to live and work on the road. Golf carts are welcome throughout the park. Nearby outdoor spots, like the Great Calusa Blueway kayak trail and Estero Bay Preserve State Park, make weekends feel like an adventure.

“It’s a great community. The people make it special—the staff, the residents, everyone’s just friendly and involved.”

Family Fun That Brings the RV Community Together

Among the many activities at Blueway RV, the pool parties are a Winchester family favorite.

“At first we didn’t go because we didn’t want to disturb anyone,” said Patrice. “But as soon as we did, the kids were out dancing and learning the line dances, and everybody was so accepting. It just felt like family.”

Blueway’s event calendar is packed with opportunities to connect, from themed pool parties and potlucks to live music nights and community games. What stood out most to the Winchesters was how inclusive it felt. Kids could go up to the DJ and request their favorite songs, no matter their age; every guest felt part of the fun.

Between events, guests can grab a bite at the seasonal on-site Blueway Café, a convenient gathering spot for lunch or a quick treat by the pool. It’s just another way Blueway makes life easy for families on the go.

Looking Ahead: The New Resort Clubhouse

Like many long-term guests, the Winchester family is excited about what’s next for the park. Demo work for the clubhouse renovation began in late 2025. Construction is slated to start in 2026.

The new space will give guests even more room to gather, celebrate, and connect once it’s complete. Guests are looking forward to having another place to share stories, meet neighbors, and enjoy the friendly spirit that defines Blueway RV Resort. It’s those lasting connections and familiar faces that keep families returning to this Fort Myers RV resort year after year.
