Experience the best of Maine when you drive to discover one of the state’s most beautiful bodies of water –Sebago Lake. It’s easy to understand why people travel from Boston and New York for the quiet shores of one of New England’s biggest lakes.
The good news is that you don’t need a boat or a fancy lake home to soak up the magic of Sebago Lake. You just need a little PTO from work and plan. We can’t help with the PTO, but we can share these six ways to live the lake life without breaking the bank.
1. Rent a Waterfront Cabin at Point Sebago Resort

2. Bring the Boat to Play on Lake Sebago
Sebago Lake is a summer playground for waterskiing, tubing, and wakeboarding. And there’s plenty of space. It’s the deepest and second-largest lake in Maine totalling 440 square miles.
There are a few things to note before hauling your boat.
First, you’ll need a Maine milfoil sticker before launching a boat in Maine. These stickers can be purchased online and are required for motorized boats.
Second, know where you’ll launch your boat and reserve a slip. You can do both at Point Sebago Resort.
Boaters can launch at Sebago Lake Station Landing on the south end of the lake in Standish, Maine. There’s a $10 fee from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There’s a free boat ramp in Raymond, Maine along Jordan Bay.
3. Rent a Boat on Sebago Lake
You can cruise the lake even if you don’t own a boat. There are several boat rental options on the lake.
Guests at Point Sebago can rent pontoon boats, kayaks, and canoes. Moose Landing Marina handles the pontoon boat rentals. The Naples, ME marina boasts the largest rental fleet on the lake.
4. Cruise to Sebago Lake Attractions
It’s not all wakeboarding on Sebago Lake. There are great spots to explore from Songo River to Long Lake in Naples for visitors.
The Song River Queen II is a unique way to explore the freshwater lake. The Mississippi paddle wheel replica offers scenic cruises along Long Lake. Guests can see Pleasant Mountain, Arrowhead Point, and lakefront mansions including the former home of author Stephen King.
Swap the riverboat for a ferry to Frye Island. It’s the biggest island on Sebago Lake. The town is a favorite for beaches, fishing, golfing, and exploring the local restaurants.

5. Yearound Sebago Fishing Hot Spots
Pack your fishing rods because there’s year-round fishing at Sebago Lake State Park. The region offers landlocked salmon, lake trout, rainbow trout, and largemouth bass. Return during the winter months for ice fishing.
Or head upriver to the Songo Locks and into Brandy Pond to catch bass, pickerel, and perch. Experiencing the Songo Locks is a unique experience even if you’re not fishing, but don’t forget your wallet. The Songo Locks cost $15 roundtrip.
6. Beach Time
The water temperature and views of Sebago Lake make it the perfect setting for relaxing on the beach.
Point Sebago boasts sandy beaches spanning Maple Bay. There’s food nearby in Point Sebago Square or grab a drink beachside at the Tiki Bar.
Another Maine campground also offers beach snacks. Check out Tassel Top Beach in Raymond, Maine for a similar experience. There’s an old boathouse turned snack shack along the beach. There is a fee for beach access but it’s worth the price.
A word of warning – Tassel Top Beach is a popular summer destination and fills up fast. It’s best to get there when the gates open each morning.
Turning Your Lake Vacation into a Second Home
So don’t miss Sebago Lake if you’re planning a Maine vacation. You’re sure to fall in love with the beaches and boating. It’s why so many visitors call Sebago Lake their second home and buy cabins with lake access.
The good news is that there are affordable options for visitors who want to return. Explore lake cottages for sale at campgrounds like Point Sebago Resort. Prices include full resort access from May to mid-October giving you the perfect spot to soak up the best of New England.
